Bitcoin ETFs sold into seven of eight selloffs since 2024 launch, DWF Labs report finds

CryptoSlate reports that US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded outflows during seven of the eight major selloffs since their January 2024 launch, citing a DWF Labs report shared with the publication. The finding runs against the expectation that Wall Street buyers would steady prices during downturns.
According to CryptoSlate, the DWF Labs study examined market declines of at least 15% and found that the US spot Bitcoin ETFs consistently lost money during those episodes. That pattern held across seven of the eight drawdowns the report counted since the funds began trading in January 2024.
The same report describes inflows arriving during other stretches, though the summary CryptoSlate published does not detail those periods. The piece was published on 22 October 2026 and carries no named author. CryptoSlate frames the result as a challenge to the view that ETF holders would act as a steady bid when prices fall.
Bitcoin traded at $81,659 as of 13:16 UTC, down 0.0017% over 24 hours, a move small enough to read as flat. The 24-hour range ran from $80,989 to $81,912. Over seven days the price slipped 1.06%, and over 30 days it gave back 4.63%. The 14-period RSI sat at 44.5 with the trend marked down. Support was $81,545.30 and resistance $81,587.70, both within a few dollars of the last print.
The wider market held steadier. Total crypto market capitalisation stood at $2.585 trillion, up 0.06% over 24 hours, with Bitcoin dominance at 63.5%. That leaves the largest asset carrying most of the index weight while its own 30-day change stays negative.
The DWF Labs findings place ETF flows and price direction on the same side during declines of at least 15% since January 2024. Bitcoin's 30-day change of -4.63% and RSI of 44.5 sit well short of that threshold, so the current tape does not test the report's claim. What the numbers set up is a question about who absorbs selling when declines deepen.
